Round church of Saas Balen
The late baroque chapel, consecrated to the Assumption of Mary, consists of two cylinders of different sizes merging into one another (with nave and choir), which are covered by flat conical roofs. A Tuscan vestibule is built on the front, in which a facade tower with a laced onion hood is integrated. The rotunda is one of the most idiosyncratic baroque buildings in Switzerland. In the list of cultural assets, it is classified as of national importance. The round church was built between 1809 and 1812. The builder of the round church was the local builder Johann Josef Andenmatten. Between 1992 and 1994 the church was completely renovated in cooperation with the cantonal homeland security.

From the Kreuzboden you can hike the nature trail comfortably and with an appropriate break in 3 - 4 hours. Over 240 different flowers and plants are mapped. Not only edelweiss, gentian, and alpine roses, but also exceedingly rare flowers e.g. Celtic valerian, sweet clover, heavenly herald and much more.
